Growing up, Eric was a gifted athlete, excelling in rugby and later in track. He entered the 1924 Olympics in Paris and was favored to win the 100-meter race. But when he learned that he would have to race on Sunday, he refused. Instead, he competed in other races and still brought home gold for Scotland.
Now a national hero, Eric announced his intentions to go to China as a missionary. There he taught Chemistry and oversaw the school's sports programs, sharing his faith at sporting events. He later married, then left teaching to become an evangelist By 1941, China was becoming more unstable and Japan was increasing its control. Concerned for his family's safety, he sent them off to Canada while he remained in China. It wasn't long until the Japanese began moving people into internment camps. There, Eric became friend and mentor to 300 children, many of whom were separated from their missionary parents. Fellow prisoners observed as he rose early each day to read and pray. He continued living out his faith in the camp and was admired and respected by all. In 1944, however, he began showing signs of a possible brain tumor and died the following year.
Eric Liddell was a humble man with a simple and personal faith whose life's purpose was to glorify God. His life and legacy continue to impact people's lives around the world.

For instance, in answer to the age old question "why doesn't God make a world where everyone can freely be saved?" Dr. Craig points out that the idea of "freely making someone do something" is a logical inconsistency in and of itself. Therefore, this is not a valid question to be asking. The video concludes with a brief question and answer session.

Dallas Willard is a Professor in the School of Philosophy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He has taught at USC since 1965, where he was Director of the School of Philosophy from 1982-1985. He has also taught at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, from 1960 to 1965, and has held visiting appointments at UCLA (1969) and the University of Colorado (1984). He holds the Ph.D. in Philosophy, with a Minor in the History of Science, from the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Willard's philosophical publications are mainly in the areas of epistemology, the philosophy of mind and of logic, and on the philosophy of Edmund Husserl, including extensive translations of Husserl's early writings from German into English. His Logic and the Objectivity of Knowledge, a study of Husserl's early philosophy, appeared in 1984. Willard also lectures and publishes in religion: Renovation of the Heart was published in April 2002, The Divine Conspiracy was released in 1998 and selected Christianity Today's "Book of the Year" for 1999. The Spirit of the Disciplines appeared in 1988, and Hearing God, which was based upon the earlier In Search of Guidance (1984) came out in 1999. Professor Willard has served on the boards of the C. S. Lewis Foundation and Biola University, and is a member of numerous evaluation, or accreditation, committees for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

George Muller of Bristol became a legend in his own generation. He was the builder of schools, a supporter of missions, and a father to some 10,000 orphans. The amazing issue of his life does not lie in what he did but in how he accomplished it.
He operated by faith - relying solely on God to meet all his needs and those of the ministry he founded. He refused to accept any donations from non-believers, and when he started his Scriptural Knowledge Institute (SKI) to accomplish these tasks, he and his partner possessed no more than one shilling - or twelve pence - together. He refused to tell anyone of his needs, mentioning them only to God in private, on his knees.
In reviewing the 63 years he spent in a true faith-based ministry, the results are staggering. Collectively, the school had 121,683 students. The orphanage had five mammoth buildings that accommodated the needs of 10,000 orphans. It is believed that 2,813 orphans left SKI believers, who in turn led thousands more to Christ.
The Institution also distributed more than 281,000 Bibles, nearly 1.5 million New Testaments, and at least 11 million tracts. Several hundred missionaries also received financial assistance, totaling nearly 260,000 ($1,250,000 then - about $15.2 million today). Sixty-three foreign missionaries were sent out from Muller's church alone. He also built 10 other churches - six of which were self-supporting at the time of his death. Nearly 1,500,000 ($7,250,000 - about $87.5 million today) was contributed to SKI as a direct result of his prayers. His principles survived his death and, by 1939, the cumulative funds prayed into the institution totaled approximately 2,370,000 pounds ($10.5 million then - about $127 million today). In stark contrast to many "faith ministries" of today, all of this was accomplished without fund-raising appeal or modern technology: No satellite programming. No emotion-driven crusades. No mass mailings. No telethons, No tent revivals. No telemarketing. George Muller's testimony is a pure example of God's grace through "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man."

In moral debate in the United States today, many people resort to moral relativism. They argue that there are no objective moral values which help us to determine what is right or wrong. They claim "everything is relative." In order to defend this position, the relativist puts forth two arguments: (1) Since people and cultures disagree about morality, there are no objective moral values; (2) Moral relativism leads to tolerance of practices we may find different or odd.
In the modern Western world, ethical relativism poses a challenge to the biblical basis for ethics. Relativism affirms that moral right and wrong are only socially and individually determined. Ethics is split off from any objective moral order. Cultural norms of morality are relative to particular societies, individuals, and historical periods. What is "right for you" may not be "right for me." What is wrong today may not be wrong tomorrow. When the idea of moral law is held in disrespect, the notion of sin softens and then dissolves. If all is relative, absolute evil is impossible. If sin is nonsense, then the notion of a Savior from sin is absurd. There is nothing from which to be saved. Because of its denial of abiding ethical standards and of sin against a holy God, relativism is a roadblock to effective evangelism -- besides undercutting values essential for a healthy society. But the key arguments for relativism are fatally flawed.
J. P. Moreland is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Southern California. The talk is outlined around four features of the moral life, which Moreland says cannot be explained on a naturalistic basis but can be explained on the basis that human beings have a free will they can exercise to choose to be moral.
For the moral person, the four features of the moral life make sense if there is a God but not if naturalism is true. Thus, Moreland says we can believe in moralism based on these four features:
1. Sheer existence of the moral law itself tells us that the imperatives come from a Lawgiver.
2. The existence of equal human rights tells us there is a God because our rights come from the fact that we are made in the image of God.
3. Proper function versus dysfunction implies a Designer of the functional.
4. Finally, the question can be answered, Why should I be moral? Ultimately, God demands our loyalty, and we know that it is in the best interest of others, as well as of ourselves, to be moral.
Moreland concludes that these four features of the moral life "are all signs that we are not alone in the universe." Therefore, we have a responsibility to live the moral life.

He is internationally regarded both as a theologian (his debates with the late Bishop James Pike, death-of-God advocate Thomas Altizer, and situation-ethicist Joseph Fletcher are historic) and as a lawyer (barrister-at-law of the Middle Temple and Lincoln's Inn, England; member of the California, Virginia, Washington State, and District of Columbia Bars and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States). He is one of only six persons to have received the Diploma of the International Institute of Human Rights cum laude, and was the Institute's Director of Studies from 1979 to 1981.

An old Egyptian passenger liner carried 144 missionaries from 20 denominations bound for mission work in Africa. The Nazi warship Tamesis mistakenly identified it as an enemy ship and shelled and sunk it off the coast of South Africa.
All of the passengers abandoned ship, and their precarious plight was filmed by two photographers who just happened to be on board--missionary V. Eugene Johnson and Life Magazine photographer David Scherman.
Here are their amazing pictures along with the firsthand stories of those who lived through the ordeal. All the missionaries were rescued. Were they miraculously delivered? See their story and decide for yourself.

1520-1560 was one of the most tumultuous times in the history of the world. The course of western civilization was dramatically altered. During this period the Swiss Reformation exploded and sent forth waves that eventually reached much of the world. This program looks at its key centers of Zurich and Geneva and its central leaders, Zwingli and Calvin.
Zwingli, the colorful Pastor at Zurich, searched the scriptures and questioned major teachings of the church of the Middle Ages. He rapidly instituted sweeping reforms. Accepted ways and worldviews were challenged and changed. Inevitably conflicts erupted. Zwingli's career was foreshortened when he was killed in battle defending truths he judged more important than his own life.
Calvin was the leading thinker of the Reformation. A quiet scholar, he was pressed into leadership at Geneva after its city council voted for reformation. Years of struggle ensued, but Calvin laid the foundation that made Geneva a unique international center.
In Calvin's time Geneva was an important refugee center and became known as the "women's paradise" because of laws regarding how men were to treat their wives.
